no one ever suspects the ladybug

2002-12-13

Okay, I just have to tell you that this morning I had a nightmare about ladybugs, and it was Terrifying! I won't go into it except to say they were aggressive and little pieces of their sharp wings were imbedded in the palm of my right hand. And now I feel a dread of ladybugs that, frankly, I never expected to have. They're such innocuous creatures; not like ostriches or something [shudder]. I'm afraid I might freak out the next time I see one.

The Boy has a virus and he's really coughing up the place, poor thing. Francisco took him to the doctor yesterday, and I was sure he had infected adenoids again, or something similar, but they said virus. Have you noticed how much more often doctors are saying virus nowadays? I mean, I'm sure most of the time it IS a virus, but I'm also sure sometimes it's not and they're missing a bacterial infection. If only Tricorders were a real thing and doctors could just scan you and tell you for sure. This is my inner geek talking. My inner geek is also dragging me to the new Star Trek movie this weekend--woo-hoo!

Other plans for the weekend involve cleaning up and starting to pack and figuring out just what needs to be done before we leave on Wednesday. We should also pick up some presents for The Boy, as we have not yet done that. Our main gift to him will be a homemade coupon book for several video game rentals and 2 or 3 new video games, since video games were the main thing on his xmas wish list. I also want to get him some new warm sweatshirts or fleece shirts, and maybe some pajamas. I know what other people are giving him and I don't think he needs too many more toys under the tree this year. He's getting some good ones.

So, our 13th anniversary is Monday. Lucky 13! I don't remember what the traditional 13th anniversary gift is--is it porn? I think maybe it's porn, but I'll check to make sure. To celebrate we'll be going to The Santaland Diaries on Tuesday night, and I think that will be just about right. We'll have to pack like crazy on Monday night and finish on Tuesday, since our flight is in the morning on Wednesday. I've been calling cat sitters this afternoon and I'm starting to get worried, because two of the places listed in the phone book have their numbers shut off; one that I got ahold of doesn't come to our town; and two others are in towns pretty far from here, so I bet they don't come to our town either. I have calls in to two other places, but they haven't called me back yet. If I can't find anyone willing to take care of my cats we might have to board them after all. This is to be avoided at all costs. I will report back.

This has been a busier day even than the past few days, so I can't take any more time to update. I have lots of people I love that I owe emails and I keep thinking I can email them and then I keep running out of time. If I don't have time to write them today I'll forward the messages home and write then this weekend. That seems like the perfect plan.

Have a great weekend!

Love,
