I'm betting it's a hoax 2001-10-11 There's a new "warning" email circulating-maybe you've already received it. This is it; I got it this morning (I've omitted all the forward-to's and comments of previous recipients): --- Hi All - I think you all know that I don't send out hoaxes and don't do the reactionary thing and send out anything that crosses my path. This one, however, is a friend of a friend and I've given it enough credibility in my mind that I'm writing it up and sending it out to all of you. My friend's friend was dating a guy from Afghanistan up until a month ago. She had a date with him around 9/6 and was stood up. She was understandably upset and went to his home to find it completely emptied. On 9/10, she received a letter from her boyfriend explaining that he wished he could tell her why he had left and that he was sorry it had to be like that. The part worth mentioning is that he BEGGED her not to get on any commercial airlines on 9/11 and to not to go any malls on Halloween. As soon as everything happened on the 11th, she called the FBI and has since turned over the letter. This is not an email that I've received and decided to pass on. This came from a phone conversation with a long-time friend of mine last night. I may be wrong, and I hope I am. However, with one of his warnings being correct and devastating, I'm not willing to take the chance on the second and wanted to make sure that people I cared about had the same information that I did. I decided to call the phone number listed for this alleged Laura Katsis, and I called a few times but the number was always busy. Since I couldn't get through by phone, I sent this email: --- Are you a real person and did you really talk to someone whose boyfriend warned her about the 9/11 terrorism and upcoming potential Halloween terrorism? (check one) ___yes ___no I am investigating the circulated email with your email address on it to determine whether it is a hoax, because you know there are a lot of those going around. I've called the phone number on the email but received only a busy signal. Thanks, Tattoobelly--- You'll notice I got to employ the "(check one)" I love so very much. I didn't expect a response--mainly I expected the email to bounce back--but in about 15 minutes I received this: --- This is an autoreply for your email sent to [email protected] A Volt employee was told this story, and out of concern, sent it to some of her friends using Volt's email system,which is against company policy. Neither Volt nor theemployee has any personal information about the eventsdescribed in her email. The proper authorities have beennotified and they are investigating. We have no furtherinformation and no further comment.--- Sounds like Laura Katsis is in Big Trouble, and basically I got no information for my troubles. So I guess if you take your kids to the mall for trick or treating on Halloween, you might want to watch the news between now and then, just in case. I am certainly not trying to alarm anyone by posting this stuff in my diary, because I'm pretty sure this IS a hoax, but I was just so surprised there is actually a real Laura Katsis that I thought I'd share. Here is my theory on why Rush Limbaugh has lost his hearing: It is unconscious wish fulfillment. If you've ever listened to his radio program (which I have, because Francisco's dad listens to it and has had it on when we've been at his house), you'll know that Rush Limbaugh has no interest in any opinions besides his own. He doesn't want to hear what other people think, and now that he's lost his hearing, he never has to listen to other's opinions again. Unconscious wish fulfillment, I tell you. I'm sorry if this seems overly mean-spirited; it's just a theory. I think my cat, Lucy, has to have her butt squeezed. When she was a kitten she used to "scoot" on the carpet all the time, and when I took her to the vet for it, he told me she had [warning--icky alert!] impacted anal glands. He squoze the glands in question (to empty the [icky!] fluid) and she was okay for about a month and then started the scooting again. I took her in whenever this happened (about once a month), but after we had her and Esther spayed, the scooting stopped. About a month ago it started up again, in earnest. The vet had tried to teach me, lo those many years ago, to squeeze her glands myself, but I couldn't get the hang of it. Possibly because I didn't Want to get the hang of it. So I guess I'll have to make her a vet appointment, but I know it'll cost me. Better than having her rubbing her ass all over the place though. Poor girl. I'm so easily verklempt lately--I get teary over the slightest things. I just thought I'd mention it. Also, I just love everyone a lot lately. What is wrong with me?! I used to be such a bitch, at least inwardly. Physically I feel much better today than yesterday--whatever that mystery illness was, it seems to be gone. Huzzah! Well, are you ready? Survivor 3 starts tonight!! The whole Pupipanu clan is So Excited about it--at my house Survivor is not just a show, it's an Event. We take what we can get in these trying times. Admittedly I kind of make it a bigger deal than it needs to be, but that's just because Boy enjoys the flurry of excitement we get every Thursday with the Survivor shows, and really I do too. Why not enjoy? I think I'll make cookies. I'm going to go email some people. I owe So Many emails to people, and work has been really busy lately so I've had no time to write back. If you happen to be someone to whom I owe email, don't hate me! I will Totally write you back. Love to everyone, and when I say everyone, I mean everyone.
